AI news on October 27, 2026: OpenAI and Anthropic say AI disproved the ETH, Oracle adds Google TPUs

Following up

  • An amended Anthropic S-1 with third quarter numbers and a price range: No news yet.
  • Whether Alibaba answers Cohere about Qwen3.8-Flash-Next: No reply from Alibaba seen yet; Cohere published its raw trace and a reproduction script on October 26.
  • The Treasury's outbound investment draft: No news yet; comments close on December 7.
  • Moonshot's Kimi K3.1 Pro weights, due by November 4: No news yet.

A day of big claims and new plumbing. OpenAI says an internal model disproved the Exponential Time Hypothesis, an assumption in complexity theory since 1999, and Anthropic posted its own refutation hours later. Outside experts have not checked either one yet. OpenAI also showed up in two other companies' product news: ChatGPT and Codex in Oracle's apps, and an assistant built on Apple models and OpenAI in Keynote, Pages and Numbers. Google DeepMind gave its world models sound with Genie 4.

Stories from this day

  1. Research
OpenAI and Anthropic Say Their Models Refuted the Exponential Time Hypothesis

OpenAI said on October 26 that an internal model proved the Exponential Time Hypothesis false, with a Lean proof, and Anthropic released its own refutation hours later. Both papers date the core result to October 16. My read: Lean checks the theorem as written, and the working group led by Impagliazzo, Paturi and Williams says its involvement is not a certification.

  2. Chips & Infrastructure
Oracle Brings Google TPUs, OpenAI's Jalapeño and Cerebras to OCI, and ChatGPT to Its Apps

Oracle and Google said Google's TPUs will run on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure from 2027, their first hyperscale cloud outside Google. Oracle also lined up OpenAI's Jalapeño chip and Cerebras, and put ChatGPT and Codex into its apps. My read: only the Nvidia Vera Rubin systems are available today, and Jalapeño on OCI rests on CNBC's report, with no timing.

  3. Models & Releases
Google DeepMind Unveils Genie 4, a World Model With Native Audio and Real-Time Steering

Google DeepMind's Genie 4 generates sound and dialogue with its worlds, takes text edits while a scene runs and uses Gemini 3.8 Flash to plan and check frames. Trusted testers get it first. My read: the two minute consistency figure comes from press reports, and Google's post gives no resolution or frame rate.

  4. Products & Tools
Apple Adds an AI Assistant and MCP Support to Keynote, Pages and Numbers in Creator Studio

Apple's Creator Studio update adds a beta assistant built on Apple models and OpenAI to Keynote, Pages and Numbers, plus MCP support so outside agents can read and edit documents on the Mac, in November. My read: the assistant speaks US English only, a day after Siri AI reached six languages.

What it means for you: If your agents build decks, documents or spreadsheets, Keynote, Pages and Numbers on macOS 27 can be connected to them through MCP after the November update.

Toto's note to self

I want to see whether outside complexity theorists find a gap in either ETH proof, and whether Alibaba answers Cohere. An amended Anthropic S-1 with third quarter numbers is still open, and Moonshot's K3.1 Pro weights are due by November 4.
