Key takeaways

  • Apple's October 27, 2026 Creator Studio update adds a beta assistant to Keynote, Pages and Numbers that Apple says is built on Apple models and OpenAI and understands the open document.
  • Model Context Protocol support lets outside AI agents read, edit and automate Keynote, Pages and Numbers, but only on the Mac with macOS 27 or later.
  • All of the new assistants work in US English only, one day after Apple expanded Siri AI to five more languages.
  • The update is free in November for existing subscribers; Creator Studio costs $12.99 a month or $129 a year for new ones.

Apple on October 27, 2026 announced an Apple Creator Studio update that adds a beta AI assistant, built on Apple models and OpenAI, to Keynote, Pages and Numbers. The same update gives the three apps Model Context Protocol support so outside AI agents can edit documents in them, and it reaches the App Store in November as a free update for existing subscribers, Apple said.

Creator Studio is the subscription bundle of creative apps Apple launched on January 13, 2026, which at the time gave Keynote beta tools for drafting presentations from outlines and Numbers a formula generator (TechCrunch). The new release moves the office apps from single tools to a general assistant and opens them to agents, alongside Apple's other consumer AI products such as Siri AI. The OpenAI link comes 13 days after OpenAI told a court that a former employee who returned to Apple took files on its unreleased device.

What does the assistant in Keynote, Pages and Numbers do?

Apple says the new assistant in Keynote, Pages and Numbers understands the context of the open document and works inside it: it designs, animates and refines slides in Keynote, drafts and restructures text in Pages, and calculates, visualizes and organizes data in Numbers. Apple announced it on October 27, 2026 as built on Apple models and OpenAI.

In Numbers, Apple says the assistant also recommends chart types with a one-tap preview and builds custom tables from world knowledge. The press release does not name an OpenAI model or say where requests are processed. The assistant is a beta and needs an Apple Intelligence-capable device running iOS 27, iPadOS 27 or macOS 27 or later.

It works in US English only. That limit stands out next to Siri AI, which Apple expanded on October 26, 2026 to French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, so the system assistant now covers six languages while the new in-app assistants cover one.

And the assistant capabilities in Logic Pro, Keynote, Pages, and Numbers are going to change the game for how people interact with and learn to use these apps.

How does MCP support work in Apple's office apps?

Model Context Protocol (MCP), the open standard that lets AI assistants call outside tools, now lets external AI agents read content, perform edits and run automated actions directly in Keynote, Pages and Numbers, Apple said on October 27, 2026. According to Apple's fine print, it requires macOS 27 or later, so it is limited to the Mac.

Apple says the MCP support is built on the same platform as the assistant, which means an agent from another company can work on a slide deck or spreadsheet without going through Apple's own chat interface. Keynote also adds the Keynote Interchange Format (.keyx), which Apple describes as an open JSON-based bundle format meant to be readable by external tools, developer workflows and AI agents. The Verge describes the change as Apple letting third-party agents plug into its productivity apps.

What else changes in Creator Studio?

The October 27, 2026 update also builds MotionVFX effects, templates and plug-ins into Final Cut Pro and Motion, adds Generate Fill to Pixelmator Pro and gives Logic Pro for Mac its own beta assistant, according to Apple. Apple acquired MotionVFX, a Polish maker of Final Cut Pro plug-ins with 70 employees, on March 16, 2026 (MacRumors), so the November update puts its tools inside Final Cut Pro about eight months after that deal.

Final Cut Pro also gains text-to-image generation, a round trip to Pixelmator Pro for timeline images, the option to disconnect clips from the primary storyline and 23 new transcription languages. Generate Fill in Pixelmator Pro edits a circled area of an image from a written description. Apple says the Logic Pro assistant runs on a combination of Apple-built and third-party models; Engadget reports the partner is OpenAI. Logic Pro also gets a redesigned sound Browser with on-device audio tagging and a Stem Splitter that isolates drums. Freeform's Pixelmator Pro editing and shape generation arrive in December.

Who gets the update, and what does it cost?

Existing Creator Studio subscribers get the update free on the App Store in November, Apple said on October 27, 2026, while new subscribers pay $12.99 a month or $129 a year after a one-month free trial. Buyers of a new Mac or qualifying iPad can get three months free, and college students and educators pay $2.99 a month or $29.99 a year.

The one-time-purchase versions of Final Cut Pro ($299.99), Logic Pro ($199.99), Pixelmator Pro ($49.99), Motion ($49.99), Compressor ($49.99) and MainStage ($29.99) stay on the Mac App Store, and MacRumors reports they also receive the new features in November. Up to six family members can share a subscription through Family Sharing.

What we don't know yet

  • Which OpenAI model powers the Keynote, Pages and Numbers assistant, and whether requests run on device, on Apple servers or at OpenAI.
  • Whether MCP support needs a Creator Studio subscription or also works in the free versions of the apps.
  • Whether the assistants and MCP support are available in the European Union, where Siri AI is still unavailable in iOS, iPadOS and watchOS.
  • The exact November release date and when the assistants leave beta.

FAQ

Do you need a Creator Studio subscription to use the assistant in Keynote, Pages and Numbers?

Apple presents the assistant as one of the intelligence features for Creator Studio subscribers. Free versions of Keynote, Pages, Numbers and Freeform remain available and come with every new iPhone, Mac and iPad, but the press release does not list the assistant among their features.

What is the Keynote Interchange Format?

It is a new file format, with the extension .keyx, that Keynote now supports. Apple calls it an open JSON-based bundle format designed to be readable by external tools, developer workflows and AI agents, which makes presentation files easier for software other than Keynote to read.

Do the new Creator Studio features work on Intel Macs?

Partly. The Creator Studio version of Final Cut Pro runs on Intel or Apple silicon Macs with macOS 26.6 or later, though Apple says some features require Apple silicon. Logic Pro for Mac requires Apple silicon, and both assistants require a device that Apple lists as Apple Intelligence-capable.
