Key takeaways

  • Apple announced HomeView on October 13, 2026: a $299 smart display with a 7-inch screen, in tabletop and wall-mounted versions, shipping November 13.
  • Siri AI runs as a beta on HomeView and on the new $299 Apple TV 4K at launch, while the $149 HomePod mini 2 gets it later through a software update.
  • At launch Siri AI on these devices works only in English, in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, India, Singapore and South Africa.
  • HomeView is not sold in the EU because Siri AI is unavailable in iOS there, Apple says, yet Apple's German site lists the Apple TV 4K at €349 and the HomePod mini 2 at €169 with no mention of Siri AI.

Apple on October 13, 2026 introduced HomeView, a $299 smart display with a 7-inch screen that it built around Siri AI, its rebuilt voice assistant. Apple also announced a new Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini 2, and said HomeView will not be sold in the European Union because Siri AI is currently unavailable in iOS there.

Siri AI reached the iPhone with iOS 27 in September, and the new hardware is positioned as a showcase for it (The Verge, CNBC). It is the first launch outside the iPhone under CEO John Ternus, who took over from Tim Cook at the start of September (CNBC), and it moves the assistant into shared home devices, a different test for consumer AI products than a personal phone.

What is Apple HomeView?

Apple HomeView is a 7-inch touchscreen smart display, announced on October 13, 2026 at $299 in both a tabletop and a wall-mounted version. Both ship on November 13 in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, India, Singapore and South Africa, according to Apple's announcement.

The wall model hangs on one of three Schneider Home mounts priced from $59.95 to $129.95, one of which arrives in early 2027. HomeView runs on Apple's A18 chip, recognizes up to six people by their faces and gives each one a personal home screen. It is also a smart home hub: it controls lights, locks and thermostats, streams up to nine camera feeds at once and works with Matter accessories and Apple Home Collection, the cameras, thermostats and lock Apple designed with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric.

Apple HomeView is designed to be shared by everyone in the home yet feel completely personal to each user.

What does Siri AI do on HomeView?

On HomeView, Siri AI answers general questions for anyone in the room and, for a recognized user with a paired Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad, draws on personal data from apps such as Messages and Calendar, Apple said on October 13, 2026. It ships on HomeView as a beta in HomeView software 27.2.

Personal content appears only when HomeView recognizes the user's face and that person's paired device is present and was recently unlocked, according to Apple. Camera and microphone data are processed in Secure Exclaves, isolated parts of the A18 chip that Apple says neither apps nor Apple can access. Siri requests run on the device or on Private Cloud Compute, Apple servers that it says do not store the data. Conversations started on HomeView continue in the Siri app on the user's other Apple devices.

The Verge, which saw demonstrations in New York, reports that Siri AI on HomeView is the same assistant as on the iPhone, with no features specific to a smart display. It handled chained requests across apps, but chained home commands only work within one device type: lights in two rooms, yes; a lock and a thermostat in one sentence, no.

Which Apple devices get Siri AI, and when?

Of the three devices Apple announced on October 13, 2026, only HomeView and the new Apple TV 4K have Siri AI at launch, both as a beta; HomePod mini 2 ships on October 30 without it and gets Siri AI later through a free software update, Apple said in its HomePod mini and Apple TV announcements. On all three, Siri AI runs in English only, in the same eight markets where HomeView goes on sale.

The fourth generation Apple TV 4K adds three far-field microphones, so viewers can talk to Siri without the remote, and shows answers in a small overlay on top of the video. Apple says Siri AI also comes to older Apple TV 4K models from the second generation onward with tvOS 27.2; Engadget notes that model dates from 2021. For Siri AI, both the Apple TV and the HomePod mini need the home's owner to have an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad. CNBC notes the prices rose from $199 for the previous Apple TV 4K and $129 for the HomePod mini.

Why is HomeView not sold in the European Union?

Apple said on October 13, 2026 that HomeView is not for sale in the EU "as Siri AI is currently unavailable in iOS in the EU," and that it is working with the EU to find a way forward. The dispute goes back to June 8, 2026, when Apple said the Digital Markets Act, the EU law that makes the largest platforms give rivals equal access, would force it to open user data to any assistant (AP).

The European Commission answered on June 9 that the decision was Apple's alone. Spokesman Thomas Regnier said Apple had asked for an 18-month exemption, which would leave no AI agent other than "Siri AI, by the way, powered by Google" an equal chance with iPhone users, the Associated Press reported.

The two other devices do reach the EU, without the assistant. Apple's German newsroom lists the Apple TV 4K at €349 and the HomePod mini 2 at €169, and neither German release mentions Siri AI, while the English versions say Siri AI will not initially be available in the EU in iOS or iPadOS. EU buyers can order the two devices where Siri AI is an addition, but not the one Apple designed around it.

What we don't know yet

  • When Siri AI reaches the HomePod mini 2; Apple has given no date beyond a future software update.
  • Which Siri AI features older Apple TV 4K models, which lack built-in microphones, will get (Engadget has asked Apple).
  • How large the daily usage limits are, and what Apple will charge for expanded access.
  • Whether and when HomeView goes on sale in the EU.
  • How reliably face-based profile switching works in daily use; The Verge had not yet used the device itself.

FAQ

Do you need an iPhone to use HomeView?

Yes, for setup. Apple says setup and multiuser support require a compatible iPhone or iPad running the latest software, and The Verge reports that each of the up to six profiles needs its own device. When nobody is recognized, HomeView can still show a doorbell feed, answer general questions, control some devices and play audio and video, according to The Verge.

Does Siri AI cost extra?

Not at launch: it comes with HomeView and the Apple TV 4K, and HomePod mini 2 gets it as a free software update. Apple's fine print says certain features that rely on server-side models are subject to daily usage limits, and that expanded access will be available for a fee in the future. Apple has not named that fee.

How does HomeView compare with Amazon's Echo Show and Google's Nest Hub?

The Verge found HomeView's square design less imposing than Google's Nest Hub Max or Amazon's Echo Show 11. It noted that the Echo Show has a similar profile feature, but HomeView's link to the iPhone gives it more personal information to work with. On first listening, its sound sat above the HomePod mini and below the full-size HomePod.

Do the AI camera descriptions on HomeView cost extra?

Yes. Apple says video descriptions for HomeKit Secure Video recordings need an eligible iCloud+ plan. Engadget reported on October 11, 2026 that a single camera requires the 2TB plan at $9.99 a month, and three to five cameras the 12TB plan at $59.99 a month.
